Saving money is something pretty much everyone likes to do.  One of the easiest ways to save money is by controlling your utilities usage and there are several easy ways to do this. One of the easiest ways to save on your utilities at your apartment is to control the usage you use when you’re home versus when you’re not home.

Saving on your Utilities Usage

  • Turn lights off in rooms that you are not in. If you are not using a room, then you do not really have a reason to be using the lights in that room.
  • Turn down heat or air conditioning while you are not at home. Unless you have pets that depend on the heat or air conditioning, these can both be powered down while you are not at home. Sure it can be uncomfortable when you first get home, but an extra layer, or one less layer can make all the difference in that first hour.

Up to 25% of your electricty use could be from just your lighting. So the trick is to turn stuff off as the article suggests….but also to start changing over to the latest LED based low energy light bulbs. Imagine a 50 Watt traditional spotlight can be replaced by a 20 Watt low energy version…well now you can buy LED spotlights that give the same light and only consume less than 5 Watts! So no need to sit in the dark!!! Here is a useful website that gives some extra information http://www.meanygoat.com/frugal-lighting/
