• The town itself was established in 1792 as a center point between the trade routes in the northwest part of the territory and the more southern towns. It was built in the area that was more famous for supporting the Newgate Tavern.

• The town was established for both residential and commercial use; housing taverns, blacksmiths, and tanyards as well as a school house.

• The American Civil War brought an influx of soldiers to Centreville because both the Battle of Manassas and the Battle of Chantilly were fought within close proximity. Because of its central location, it is also famous for being the location of the first ever military only railroad.

• With the influx of technology and other businesses into Washington D.C., the affluence of Centreville has risen. The median income is almost $30,000 more than the median Virginia, which makes it a quite wealthy suburb of the nations capital.
